Writing about Rewarding Habits?
Everything you need is on this page. For anything else: [email protected]. We are a two-person team and we answer our own email.
Boilerplate
Rewarding Habits is a family-built habit app that uses random rewards (never streaks) and a private, on-device AI coach grounded in behavioral science. It helps people build good habits, quit bad ones, and ride out urges. All data stays on the user's device. Available for iPhone, Android, Apple Watch, and Wear OS.
Fast facts
- What it is: a habit tracker with no streak counters anywhere. Completions earn randomly selected rewards (variable-ratio reinforcement); a missed day breaks nothing.
- Who makes it: Aspen & Brandon Cordoba, a husband-and-wife team in Texas (Intricate Coffee LLC). Aspen dreamed it up and designed it; Brandon wrote the code.
- The science: built on 35+ research-backed principles including variable-ratio rewards, ACT-based urge surfing, implementation intentions, and self-compassion. Every public claim is cited on the research page.
- Privacy: all data stays on the device. No accounts, no ads, no tracking; the AI coaching runs entirely on the phone.
- Business model: free to start; one-time purchase for unlimited habits. No subscription.
- Platforms: iPhone (beta via TestFlight), Android (public beta coming), Apple Watch, and Wear OS.
The story
Rewarding Habits is built by Aspen & Brandon, a husband & wife team with a mission bigger than software.
It started when Aspen heard Dr. Andrew Huberman describe how unpredictable rewards drive lasting motivation. Her first plan was a jar: write little rewards on slips of paper, and draw one each time she completed a healthy habit. The jar became an app. She dreamed it up and designed it; Brandon added to it and wrote the code.
Our daughter Adelina was born with a congenital heart defect. She's had multiple heart surgeries, with more ahead. The profits from this app help pay for her ongoing medical care.
When you download Rewarding Habits, you're not just investing in your own growth. You're helping a little girl live a full life.
Why "no streaks" is the story
Most habit apps are built around streaks. The research suggests that is a design flaw: visible progress can license slacking off (moral licensing), and a broken streak triggers the all-or-nothing collapse psychologists call the abstinence violation effect. Rewarding Habits inverts the model: rewards are variable and forgiving instead of continuous and fragile, and the coaching is built on self-compassion research rather than pressure. The research page cites the studies behind every claim.
